Home waxing is a very practical, healthy and inexpensive alternative to waxing salons and beauticians. There are other hair removal methods that you can try at home, such as the razor, depilatory cream, or razor, but waxing is undoubtedly the best option.

Strip or cold hair removal, ideal for groin and upper lip
If you are new to waxing and are not used to home methods, we recommend that you start with the cold wax strips. These are adhesive bands that, after heating them by rubbing with your own hands, are placed on the hair. They are somewhat less effective than traditional hot wax, although the groin and upper lip are ideal for delicate areas. The only thing to keep in mind is that you should pull it in the opposite direction of hair growth .
Hot wax
Although more effective than cold wax, homemade hot wax requires a bit more time and skill. So, if you want to try and you are already somewhat used to waxing with hot wax, we encourage you to try this method, which is one of the most effective. We suggest the Arabic method , a recipe based on lemon, water, sugar and honey.
But, if you prefer, you can buy a complete hot wax kit to wax at home (for € 16.99 on Amazon). The procedure is very simple: the wax is heated until it is malleable and is applied with a small wooden spatula in the direction in which the hair grows. Then, place the depilatory band on top and, once it is well attached, remove it with a dry and strong movement in the opposite direction of hair growth.
This type of hair removal is ideal for larger areas where waxing with cold wax strips would be too long and laborious. You should avoid this method if you have varicose veins , since the heat causes the blood vessels to dilate.
DIY Arabic Waxing: The Recipe To Make It At Home
One of the most effective recipes for waxing with hot wax at home is the Arabic method, also called halawa or sokkar. It is made based on sugar, water and lemon juice. Do you know what is the recipe for preparing Arabic hot wax at home?
- 1 glass of sugar
- 1/2 lemon
- 1 glass of water
- 1 tablespoon of salt
Pour the sugar and water into a nonstick pot and boil the mixture for a few minutes. You will get a caramel-colored cream to which you must add the lemon drops. Stir and immerse it in cold water to lower the temperature and you can work it with your hands. Apply it on the legs and, to remove it, pull it in the opposite direction of hair growth.© Getty
Arabic wax with honey: the variant for the most delicate areas
Unlike the traditional recipe, this variant is more delicate with the skin thanks to the fact that it contains honey. This makes it particularly suitable for the most sensitive areas, such as the upper lip, armpits and groin. To prepare it at home you will need:
- 2 glasses of sugar
- 1/2 lemon
- 1 glass of water
- 2 tablespoons of honey. You can buy high-quality forest honey on Amazon.
Put all the ingredients in a nonstick skillet and let it heat up over low heat. Once the mixture is liquid, remove it from the heat and submerge it in cold water. Then, knead it with your hands and form a ball with it. Thanks to the honey, the ball will be softer and more malleable, so you can remove ‘pieces’ of it that you must spread in the area you want to wax.
To make it less painful, before shaving, you can apply a little cleansing milk on the skin (Buy Avène softening cleanser, for € 15.29 on Amazon) . It is also advisable that you exfoliate your skin the day before waxing to avoid ingrown hair.
